Scan Away Hunger

2010 marked the 16th year that Mission Services of London hosted its annual Scan Away Hunger Campaign, along side many community partners.

Scan Away Hunger began in 1994 with the campaign running through the months of November and December encouraging Londoners to top up their grocery bill with the “cost of a meal” whenever they are shopping at participating locations. Since then, the campaign has grown in leaps and bounds. Today, participating locations include North London Sobeys, Wortley Valu-Mart, Oxford Valu-Mart, the three London locations of Giant Tiger and Sunripe Marketplace.

Londoners were encouraged to add $3.11 (or multiples thereof) to their bills whenever they are shopping at Valumart, Giant Tiger, Sobeys, or Sunripe Marketplace.

The campaign to date has provided over 250,000 meals for those in need. In 2010 the Scan Away Hunger Campaign raised closed to 20,000 meals for men, women and children in Mission Services of London shelters.

Your donation of $3.11 will buy one meal for someone in need at one of our branches.

We are looking forward to the 2011 campaign and are working hard at expanding our partnership to other local grocers.
