I would like to involve myself within a food service system in a community setting this summer, beginning (May 1st 2012 and continuing into the next school year) and I feel that this position is an excellent opportunity to gain invaluable experience in learning the operational roles and tasks involved in providing a food service. I am currently studying Food and Nutrition at the University of Western Ontario and have hopes of a career progression into Community Dietetics.

They need to save face. When they had the money,how were they going to spend it to show “they care” – their bonuses or the city? Now that they are short, to save face isn’t following through on their commitment, it’s making ends meet because although our society believes in supporting the poor, their greater value is their own financial well being. People would rather have money “over there” that doesn’t affect them cut, then to raise taxes or have money in their pockets (or promised to them) taken away. Why did they cut it in this area? Because the people with the loudest voice have the deepest pockets.

If the city had decided to cut the money from somewhere else that didn’t affect you, would you even have blogged this?

An inquisitive mind seeks both sides of a story. I’m curious as to the reasoning behind the decision our municipal government made in slashing their previous commitment to affordable housing. What other factors were in play when it came to the budget?

On a different note, and at the risk of merely sounding like a complaining citizen, where is the accountability for our politicians and leaders?!?! I agree with Steve – this is yet another broken promise adding to the marginalization of the poor. One cannot help but cynically think, another case of the rich getting richer while the poor get poorer. Where is the accountability?
