During the holidays, there seems to be an endless stream of parties, events and celebrations. We’re greeted with a glass of warm eggnog, a slice of brie on a fancy cracker and the smell of fresh pine and crisp winter air. The spirit of Christmas is everywhere.
The folks at General Dynamics Land Systems however, chose to celebrate that Christmas spirit in a different way. Instead of the traditional staff Christmas luncheon, they chose to donate time and money to the Men’s Mission & Rehabilitation Centre. The dedicated and hard working staff at General Dynamics Land Systems will not be piling their plates with turkey and trying to guess the identity of their Secret Santa. Instead, they will be experiencing the feeling that comes from helping our neighbours in need. “[Mission Services of London] does a fabulous job,” says Chris Smith, Director of Productions at General Dynamics Land Systems. “We’re proud to have contributed for the last few years.” Indeed they have. Over the past ten years, they have contributed $120,000 to Mission Services of London. It is an organization that a number of its employees and management staff hold dear.
In addition to presenting Director of Fundraising and Development Ericka Ayala Ronson with a cheque for $12,000, employees threw on aprons, washed up their hands and helped in the kitchen, preparing meals for the residents of the mission. “We decided it was a good cause many years ago,” recalls Craig McLarty, Union Chairperson. “We just stuck with it.”
From all of us at Mission Services of London, we are glad they did.
