Gift of Securities

You can make a gift of publicly traded securities such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to Mission Services of London or to its Foundation.

These gifts can help to fill the vital needs of clients throughout our branches – things like safe shelter, nutritious meals, counselling, and linkages to other community supports. Your support through a gift of securities can help men, women, and children who are experiencing homelessness reach a different tomorrow.

“Volunteering at the Mission Store really
opened my eyes to homelessness, mental
health, and addiction issues… By donating securities, it allows me to be far more generous to the charity than I could be writing cheques”.
– Jim Trafford, Gift of Securities Donor

Eligible donors receive a charitable tax receipt for the market value of the gifted securities on the day they arrive in Mission Services of London’s or its Foundation’s account. You, as the donor, can use this tax receipt to help reduce the amount of tax payable on your income; if necessary, you can carry the tax receipt forward to any of the following five years.

Any increase in value in the donated securities during the time when you held them will not be subjected to any capital gains tax. This applies to gifts of securities that you make now or to those that are deferred into the future through a provision in your will (visit our Legacy Giving page for more information on deferred gifts).
