On Tuesday May 5th, Mission Services of London is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity as an emergency response to COVID-19.
As the pandemic unfolds, Mission Services of London, an essential service provider, continues to help individuals and families who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness, addiction, mental illness and poverty. In the midst of this upheaval, we are committed to continuing to respond to people experiencing need, affirm human dignity, and inspire hope as best we can — no matter the challenges we face.
People experiencing or at risk of homelessness, are among the most vulnerable to a virus outbreak; compromised immune systems and chronic health conditions often increase their risk. We are offering safe shelter, nutritious meals, help to secure stable housing, assistance to access important health assessments or isolation spaces, and much more.
Join us in caring for neighbours in need during this pandemic, and demonstrate the power of generosity with a gift on May 5th!
Your Gift Secures Vital Personal Protective Equipment
We are following the guidance of health officials and will continue to do so. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like face masks, face shields, disposable gowns and gloves for staff and even travel size hand sanitizer and masks/face coverings for clients are important parts of keeping everyone healthy. PPE enables staff to continue providing services to people in great need — even in the midst of this global pandemic.
Homelessness has not stopped just because of COVID-19 and neither have our services; we are still offering safe emergency shelter, nutritious meals, help to secure and maintain stable housing and more.
Donations Help Maintain a Clean Environment
The current situation has created additional needs for men, women and children who are struggling, and we are responding to those needs. Our essential staff are providing assistance to clients who must access health assessments, monitoring spaces, and isolation spaces. We have increased housekeeping staff, ramped up cleaning frequency of high traffic and other areas, and adapted our housekeeping protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as much as possible.
Your Support Fills Empty Bellies
Due to physical distancing guidelines, Mission Services of London clients are now spread out between our emergency shelter buildings as well as local hotels. Our kitchen teams have adapted and expanded the scope of their service to encompass delivering meals to clients inside, and also outside, the shelter buildings.
In addition, we are collaborating with other local community organizations to ensure their clients have continued access to nourishing meals too.
Cash donations enable the preparation of meals, as well as the purchase of ingredients and even unforeseen needs like take-out containers with lids to properly deliver the food to clients who are staying off-site. Your support can also fund the purchase of grocery store gift cards for individuals and families who receive outreach services from Mission Services of London, and who are struggling to make ends meet.
What our service looks like will no doubt continue to evolve as the emergency unfolds. Your financial contributions will allow us to remain flexible and adapt as the needs of neighbours in need change, and as the guidelines for delivering service are updated.
If you prefer snail mail, we are also able to accept donations in the form of cheques made payable to Mission Services of London and mailed to 4-797 York St., London, Ontario, N5W 6A8.
Thank you to everyone who is donating through this trying time. Your generosity is making a significant positive impact in our community!
