A big thank you to Libro Credit Union for helping to draw attention to the Prevention of Homelessness Among Families program (PHAF) – a vitally needed support for families in need in our community. The program helps families avoid a stay in shelter altogether – and when that is not possible, to exit emergency shelter quicker, and to secure and maintain stable housing longer term.
Libro Credit Union’s generous gift of $20,000 prompted a year-end fundraising challenge for PHAF
Thank you also to other generous neighbours whose year-end gifts will help struggling individuals and families in the London area. During the time of the Libro Challenge, we saw a 21% increase in website donations compared to last year…thank you again!
The PHAF program is focused on connecting with families to keep them housed or find them housing so they can avoid coming into emergency shelter. And, if they need to come into emergency shelter, workers help to get families out of shelter and into their own housing as quickly as possible, while helping them maintain long-term housing through housing stability.
Our Shelter Diversion Worker works with families to help them avoid coming into shelter by finding a way to make their current living situation work or help them find other appropriate housing. Our Housing Stability Workers provide counselling and supports for clients to create stability for their families in the communities where they are living. Our Housing Selection Worker helps families with their housing search specifically.
