We can only imagine a day in the life of an emergency room doctor: admirable compassion and unconditional regard for human life coupled with the talent and knowledge to make life saving, split second decisions.
Our clients at Mission Services of London know all too well how dedicated these doctors must be. “We often have to call the Men’s Mission to make arrangements for our patients once they’ve finished in the emergency room, “ says Dr. Wanda Millard. Because of this interaction and mutual respect, Dr. Millard and a group of ten emergency room Docs came up with a way to support Mission Services of London as a whole. Not with a stethoscope and a bandaid as you might expect, but with a pair of running shoes and a great deal of heart.
Dr. Millard and her colleagues have decided to participate in one of London’s many road races in an effort to raise money for the Men’s Mission & Rehabilitation Centre. “[The staff] at Men’s Mission is always so helpful and polite,” says Millard. “When we considered what charity would be most appropriate for us to support, Mission Services of London came to mind.”
Members of the public can pledge their upcoming run by way of Mission Services of London’s own website. “When you visit the website, click on the Donate Now button,” Millard explains. “Halfway down the page, check the box: ‘I would like my donation to go’ and enter: emlondonrunnersonamission.” This way, donors can be sure to show support for both the dedicated emergency room doctors and our neighbours in need.
