Coldest Night of the Year: Walk with Us on February 22nd

Coldest Night of the Year walkersWe launched the 2020 Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) WALK season on January 15th at Wok Box Downtown where Rob, an Addictions Counselor at Quintin Warner House, shared his insight into the importance of supporting the cause. “It’s important particularly this year as our city finds itself entrenched in crisis – addiction, lack of access to physical and mental health services, as well as housing prices. The walk is an opportunity for people to come together and support each other at this time of year,” said Rob.

CNOY turns our attention to inclement weather faced by people experiencing homelessness in the winter. Rob shared, “It’s the time of year when demands on our community can be at a peak in terms of wait lists and shelter beds. On a personal level, I have struggled with addiction and have experienced homelessness, and the struggles that come to my memory the most happened in the winter. We live in Canada and you have to keep in mind that there’s a feeling of desperation which puts up a barrier to being well when you’re focusing on staying alive”.

CNOY offers an opportunity to come together to raise awareness and funds for programs that help neighbours in need achieve a different tomorrow. As Rob said, “In these crucial times, come on out! Our community is only as strong as we treat our most vulnerable people”.
