Addiction Counsellor (6 Month Contract)

Quintin Warner House has opening for a contract full time (6 months) position for an Addiction Counsellor–Annex/Aftercare. This position reports to the Program Supervisor.


Duties and Responsibilities:
To provide addiction counseling and support to clients over a 16 – 20 week program comprised of Pre-Phase, Phase 1, Phase 2, and Aftercare components with the following responsibilities:

  • Provide screening, intake and assessment for clients in order to determine the presenting issue(s) and access appropriate treatment programming and/or services.
     
  • Develop an individual treatment plan based on the assessment of presenting issue(s).
     
  • Provide ongoing evaluation, follow-up and revision of client’s progress/goals.
     
  • Facilitate group sessions in key areas such as problem identification, solving and planning, sexuality, anger management, spirituality, inner child and grief, relapse prevention and trauma.
     
  • Observe and monitor prescription use and administer drug screens.
     
  • Develop After Care Plan with clients upon completion / graduation of QWH or other recognized addiction facilities.
     
  • Plan, organize and maintain individual case management documentation (assessment information, treatment plans, progress reports, discharge plan, and homework assignments for assigned clients.
     
  • Provide service to residents/clients that is consistent with the mission, vision and values of Mission Services of London.
     
  • Develop positive service linkages and relationships with community agencies/resources, resulting in seamless service to clients.
     
  • This position requires availability on evenings and weekends.


Qualifications:
 

  • Completion of a diploma or degree program in Social Services, Social Work or Addictions Counselling.
  • Membership with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers is an asset.
  • 2-3 years experience in Case Management/Rehabilitation Counselling.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, First Aid, CPI and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Suicide Prevention Certificate (a definite asset).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Sound knowledge of techniques is required: crisis intervention, anger diffusion, conflict intervention and resolution, use of chemical dependency diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of abuse, addiction issues, concurrent disorders and trauma.
  • Knowledge of French Language an asset.
